The Oasis Staff Health and Wellbeing Garden

At the Royal Berkshire Hospital, the Oasis Staff Health and Wellbeing Garden gives NHS colleagues somewhere to step outside, take a breath and spend a quiet moment in nature.

Royal Berks Charity launched an appeal to transform the garden beside the staff wellbeing centre. Supporters’ donations helped fund its creation and upkeep, alongside support from NHS Charities Together. Hospital teams and local volunteers have also helped bring the space to life and continue to care for it.

Today, the garden offers staff a peaceful retreat during busy working days. In 2025, it received a Reading in Bloom Gold Award and an NHS Forest Collaborative Award. Those honours celebrate what supporters helped grow: a lasting space for the people who care for our community.

The Breast Screening Appeal

A routine breast screening appointment can feel easier to attend when the service comes closer to your community. That was the goal behind Royal Berks Charity’s £130,000 appeal for mammography equipment for the West Berkshire Breast Screening Programme’s mobile service.

Support came from across Berkshire. The League of Friends of Berkshire Hospitals contributed £32,500, while Cisco colleagues raised £18,000 by walking 100km of the Portuguese Camino Way. They joined many others in helping turn an ambition for better local access into something practical.

Today, Ruby, a new mobile breast screening unit made possible with support from Royal Berks Charity, is travelling across Berkshire. Designed with comfort and privacy in mind, it brings routine screening closer to home. Everyone who supported the appeal helped make that difference possible.

The Maternity Bereavement Suite Appeal

When a family loses a baby, privacy and quiet can matter enormously. At the Royal Berkshire Hospital, two maternity bereavement suites offer families space to spend time together, supported by specialist midwives. But sounds from the busy maternity ward could reach the rooms at an already painful time.

Supporters responded to Royal Berks Charity’s Christmas Appeal to improve the suites. Their generosity helped fund refurbishment and soundproofing, creating a calmer, more private setting for families. The hospital later reported that the soundproofing had reduced noise reaching the rooms.

No room can take away a family’s grief. Thanks to our supporters, these suites can offer more peace during the precious time families spend with their baby.
