Role: Volunteer Collection Box Steward

About the role
Our collection boxes and buckets raise valuable funds to support patients, families and staff across the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust.
As a Volunteer Collection Box Steward, you’ll help us manage collection boxes placed in shops, businesses and community locations across Reading and the surrounding area. This is a flexible role that can usually be arranged around your availability and the opening hours of each location.
What you’ll be doing
You may help us to:
- Deliver collection boxes and buckets to approved locations.
- Collect full boxes and replace them with empty ones.
- Safely return collected donations to the charity.
- Maintain friendly relationships with the businesses and organisations hosting our collection boxes.
- Identify and suggest potential new collection-box locations.
- Respond to occasional requests to collect or replace a box at short notice.
What we’re looking for
You don’t need previous fundraising experience. We’re looking for someone who is:
- Friendly, positive and comfortable speaking to people.
- Reliable, trustworthy and well organised.
- Confident handling collection boxes and following simple recording procedures.
- Able to work independently while keeping in contact with the charity team.
- Flexible about helping during mornings, afternoons or evenings when needed.
Access to a vehicle may be useful for transporting collection boxes, depending on the locations allocated to you. Some tasks may involve lifting and carrying, so we’ll discuss the practical requirements and any adjustments you may need before you begin.

- A full charity induction and role-specific guidance.
- Ongoing support from the charity team.
- A branded T-shirt and volunteer identification badge.
- Reimbursement of agreed travel expenses.
- Appropriate risk assessments and guidance to help you volunteer safely.

Complete and submit our Volunteer Application Form. You’ll then be invited to an informal interview. If successful, we’ll contact your referees and arrange your induction before you begin volunteering.
