Throughout Royal Berks Charity’s 30th anniversary year, people across our community have helped raise an incredible £200,000 towards our £300,000 Equipment Appeal.
That £200,000 represents thousands of individual acts of support – donations, challenges, events, fundraising and people simply sharing our story. Together, they have brought us within touching distance of our goal.
This Christmas, we are hoping to raise the final £100,000 to help support new and enhanced equipment across Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust.
Look what you’ve already helped make possible
For 30 years, Royal Berks Charity has brought people together to support our local hospitals. Charitable funding has helped provide equipment, facilities and improvements that sit alongside NHS funding and help our teams do even more for the people in their care.
One example is our mobile breast screening unit, supported through charitable funding and helping breast screening services reach people across Berkshire.
The unit gives the breast screening team a dedicated, modern space to carry out appointments in the community, helping make screening more accessible and bringing the service closer to the people who need it.
As a mobile unit, it can travel to different locations across Berkshire, supporting the team to reach more people without asking everyone to come into hospital. For many patients, that can make the experience feel simpler, more convenient and less daunting.
It also gives staff a purpose-built environment in which to carry out screening, helping them deliver the service in a way that is efficient, welcoming and focused on the needs of patients.
It is a visible reminder of what charitable support can help make possible: practical equipment that supports NHS teams, improves the patient experience and brings care closer to local communities.
What could your support help make possible next?
One of the pieces of equipment your support could help fund is a RITA device – Reminiscence Interactive Therapy Activities.
RITA is a touchscreen-based digital therapy tool designed to support people living with dementia. It can provide familiar music, photographs, games, videos and personalised content to help stimulate memories, encourage conversation and create moments of reassurance and enjoyment.
For someone who may be feeling confused or unsettled in hospital, hearing a favourite song, recognising an old photograph or sharing a familiar memory can bring comfort and connection. RITA can also give staff, families and carers another way to engage with a patient as a person, not simply as someone receiving care.
It might not look like traditional hospital equipment, but that is exactly what makes it so special.
