Volunteer Event Ambassador

Volunteer role description

Role: Volunteer Event Ambassador
Charity: Royal Berks Charity
Reports to: Community and Events Fundraising Manager
Location: Reading and the surrounding area
Time commitment: Flexible opportunities throughout the year

About the role

Royal Berks Charity holds and attends a variety of fundraising and community events throughout the year. Our Volunteer Event Ambassadors help these events run smoothly while providing a warm and welcoming experience for everyone attending.

This is a varied, public-facing role for someone who enjoys meeting people, working as part of a team and getting involved behind the scenes.

What you’ll be doing

Activities will vary depending on the event and may include:

  • Helping set up tables, gazebos, signage, displays and event materials.
  • Welcoming guests, participants and supporters.
  • Helping with registration, information points, stalls or collections.
  • Directing people and answering general questions.
  • Supporting charity staff, performers, stallholders and other volunteers.
  • Helping monitor event areas and reporting any concerns to the event lead.
  • Packing away equipment and materials when the event finishes.
  • Carrying out other appropriate tasks needed to help the event run successfully.

Some event preparation may take place on a different day from the event itself. Opportunities may be during mornings, afternoons, evenings or weekends.

What we’re looking for

You don’t need previous events or fundraising experience. We’re looking for people who are:

  • Friendly, positive and welcoming.
  • Reliable and able to arrive at agreed times.
  • Comfortable speaking to members of the public.
  • Happy to work as part of a team and follow instructions.
  • Flexible and willing to help with a range of activities.
  • Enthusiastic about supporting their local NHS charity.

Some tasks may involve standing, walking, working outdoors or moving equipment. A risk assessment will be completed for every event, and we’ll discuss any adjustments or additional support you may need.

How much time will I need to give?

Events take place at different times throughout the year. We’ll let you know about upcoming opportunities and you can choose which ones you would like to support.

There is no expectation that you attend every event. Once you agree to an event, however, we ask that you let us know as soon as possible if your availability changes.

What we’ll provide

Royal Berks Charity will provide:

  • A full charity induction.
  • A clear briefing before each event.
  • Support from a named member of the charity team.
  • A branded T-shirt and volunteer identification badge.
  • Relevant equipment and event information.
  • Reimbursement of agreed travel expenses in line with our volunteer expenses policy.
  • Opportunities to develop your confidence, teamwork and event experience.
How do I apply?

Complete and submit our Volunteer Application Form. You’ll then be invited to an informal interview. If successful, we’ll contact your referees and arrange your induction before you begin volunteering.

For more information or an informal conversation, contact Martin Butler, Community and Events Fundraising Manager, on 07949 948 310 or email [email protected].
